Editing the Routine During a Consult

Overview

During a consult, you have the ability to edit the patient’s routine.

However, editing should be used sparingly and intentionally.

When You Should Edit

Editing is appropriate when:

  • A product is not available

  • You prefer a different product or brand

  • There is a specific patient consideration

  • You want to align with in-office inventory

How to Edit the Routine

  1. Open the patient in PRO Consult

  2. View the patient’s routine

  3. Click the Edit button on the step you want to change

  4. Select from the available indication options

  5. Save your changes

Understanding Your Editing Options

Indication-Based Alternatives

The available options shown are clinically appropriate alternatives for that specific step.

You can manually type in and select any product, but this bypasses the system logic and removes the clinical validation of the routine.

You can move steps within the routine, but the scientific integrity of the routine may no longer be valid.

Why It Matters

Maintaining the integrity of the routine ensures:

  • consistent patient outcomes

  • provider alignment

  • trust in the system

Use indication-based edits when needed—but avoid overrides unless absolutely necessary.

Common Mistakes

  • Using manual overrides too frequently

  • Reordering steps without understanding the impact

  • Breaking the routine structure unnecessarily
